Non League Day: Paget Rangers 2-0 Uttoxeter

11 months ago By Joshua Smith

The Bears overcome the Staffordshire side on Non League Day.

Paget secured a solid two nil win over Uttoxeter Town on Non League Day.

The Bears almost opened the scoring in the first minute when some bizarre defending from Uttoxeter allowed Daniel Carter through on goal. Fortunately for the visitors their goalkeeper managed to bail them out.

Uttoxeter managed to get into the game and even had a few opportunities at goal from set pieces, but couldn’t find the next.

Town could have used a goal as the Wee Gers had a flurry of chances that worries there Uttoxeter defence. Ross Dempster especially dangerous in front of goal, nudging a a Carter cross over moments before testing the tow number one.

There was no rest for the visitors’ defence as Carter hit the post and the rebound fell to Dempster, who again sent the ball over.

With just under 20 minutes played the Bears finally broke the deadlock. A long ball from Rio was poorly intercepted by Chris Richards, and Billy Fagg was there to pick the ball up, round the keeper and send the ball smoothly over the line.

Paget went on to dominate possession much to the frustration of the Staffs side.

It only took 10 minutes for the Bears to breach the Town defence again. A well worked attack involving Liam Norris, Mark Williams and Carter saw Fagg curl the ball into path of Dempster who found the net with a side footed shot.

A pair of ambitious shots from Uttoxeter was evidence of their desperation to pull one back before the break, but the Bears remained strong and score remained two nil at half-time.

The visitors almost got a goal within two minutes of play resuming, but Liam Sowter sent the ball straight at Josh Benton. A poor shot from Kyle Esplin followed.

Indeed the Wee Gers were less effective in the second half and although Town had plenty of chances they failed to find the net.

Paget also had chances but failed to increase their lead and the half remained goalless as the Bears took all three points.
