Conlon Header Secures Paget Victory
The Bears kicked off the hectic Christmas fixture list with victory over local rivals Chelmsley Town on Friday night.
It was the hosts who started the brighter, creating the first real chance with Ellis heading against the crossbar from a Kieran Fitzgerald free kick.
This let off seemed to wake up the Bears and Paget subsequently took the lead. Billy Fagg collected the ball in the middle of the pitch before driving forward and finding fellow midfielder, Lemaar Rhule. Rhule turned his marker and unleashed an unstoppable left footed drive which beat James Kelly at the near post to put Paget ahead.
Moments later, Chelmsley defender James Sawyer, brought down Fagg with a late tackle and was shown his second yellow card of the match, reducing the hosts to ten men before half time.
In the second half Paget looked to dominate possession and control the game, whilst being wary of the threat of Chelmsley’s counter attacks. The Bears got the second goal their dominance deserved in the 53rd minute. Luke Bradley outpaced full back Liam Norris down the left before whipping in a perfect cross to Ryan Conlon, who’s bullet header almost broke the net to put Paget 2-0 up.
The remainder of the game became a case of attack versus defence with Paget dominating proceedings but failing to add to the scoreline as the Bears returned to winning ways.
