Paget Comeback Stuns Stafford
Paget made it three wins from three over the festive period by coming from behind to defeat Stafford Town 4-1 at Evans Park.
Paget Rangers made it three wins from three over the festive period with a superb second half performance and a 4-1 victory at a blustery Evans Park last Saturday.
With the ferocious wind behind them in the first half, Paget struggled to adapt to the conditions at first and saw a number of long forward passes misplaced whilst any shots were wayward and failed to test Josh Moreton in the Stafford goal.
This slow start was to cost Paget dear when in the 11th minute, a Stafford corner caused all sorts of problems and as the Bears failed to clear their lines, Godwill Dalubuhle bundled the ball home close to the goal line.
This seemed to sting Paget to life, who began to adapt their game to a more fluid style, playing considerably more football than in the opening exchanges. Paget got their reward in the 25th minute when a superb run down the left wing and pinpoint cross by Luke Bradley was powerfully headed home by Jack Gibson.
In the second half Paget were playing into the wind and this seemed to help the Bears who by now were dominating in terms of both possession and chances created. In the 56th minute a foul on Lemaar Rhule gave Paget a free kick. The set-piece from Dean Morris moved all over the place in the wind, deceiving the Stafford keeper who spilt Morris’ shot to a grateful Carter, who was able to stab the ball home to put Paget ahead.
Paget extended their lead in the 61st minute when Daniel Carter produced a moment of brilliance. Released down the left, Carter charged into the box before firing an unstoppable left footed drive into the top right hand corner of the goal which left Moreton with no chance.
The Bears were now purring and extended their lead further in the 71st minute, Jack Gibson displaying good technique before firing the ball home to make the scoreline Stafford Town 1-4 Paget Rangers.
