Stourport Swifts 5-1 Paget Rangers (The Buildbase FA Vase Second Qualifying Round)
A disappointing day out sees the Bears fail to qualify for the Buildbase FA Vase.
Paget Rangers failed to progress to the first round of the Buildbase FA Vase, losing 5-1 away from home to Premier Division side Stourport Swifts.
Despite what the score line might suggest both teams started well and both had chances to get in front first.
However it would be the home side that would open the scoring, the Bears failed to clear the danger and Alex Perry capitalised putting Stourport in front just after 20 minutes.
Paget were unable to trouble the home side, and things went from bad to worse when Dan Sweeney went down in the box. The referee showed no hesitation and signalled for a penalty to the Swifts. Drew Canavan stepped up and sent it past Josh Benton, who to his credit managed to dive the right way.
With half-time looming it seemed crucial for Paget to pull one back and they did when Dean Morris converted a corner with three minutes to play. Despite several chances for the Swifts in the remaining minutes the Wee Gers managed to hold on, keeping the score at 2-1 to the hosts.
The Bears came out after the break looking better, but Stourport still looked dangerous when given the opportunity.
With less than 15 minutes of the second half played Paget gave away a free kick in a dangerous position. The cross falling to Aaron Lloyd, who restored the Swifts lead.
It only took the hosts six minute to extend their lead to three, as Paul Hurrell headed in at the near post.
Paget’s chances of at least clawing back to level looked slim as the game wore on, but with 10 minutes left Ross Dempster played Daniel Carter through. However the Paget striker failed to get enough power on the shot.
Stourport weren’t done and in the dying minutes of the game Nick MacPherson went down in the box and the Swifts were awarded their second penalty of the game. MacPherson sent the ball into the back of the net to secure a 5-1 win for the home side.
