Paisley 2nd XV match report

Paisley's 2nd XV worked a good home win against Loch Lomond in atrocious conditions.

Paisley's 2nd XV worked a good home win against Loch Lomond in atrocious conditions. After losing the toss, the home side found themselves facing into an unremitting gale, but chased every ball and defended superbly whenever Loch Lomond attacked. They turned over one of the Balloch side's possessions after another and were rewarded after 31 minutes when stand off Colin May converted a penalty from around 20 metres, a difficult kick in view of the headwind. The pattern of the game continued until, at the stroke of half time, the visitors took the opportunity to convert a penalty in front of the Paisley posts, leaving the score 3-3 at the half. After a rousing pep talk from skipper Fraser Ross, and now having the wind at their backs, Paisley ran the ball at Loch Lomond at every opportunity, controlling possession well with a series of rucks and mauls to which the visitors had no answer. The pressure told after 65 minutes with centre Daniel du Preez barreling over for the opening try. Ten minutes after that, the lead was extended when number 8 Brian Kelly dived across to make the score 13-3 a lead which was looking more and more out of Loch Lomond's reach. Another ten minutes elapsed before the scoring was finalised, with May dummying a scissors pass to DuPreez and sliding in for another try. The final score was 18-3 for Paisley, a richly deserved win for a team which never looked like losing. This brings this team's winning streak to 4. Man of the Match was centre David Burt.
