West of Scotland 60 - 15 Paisley
Cup campaign comes to an end
The Anchor boys fought well on a glorious sunny day in Glasgow against a well drilled and clever West team. Paisley didn't play badly, but once again defensive awareness let the hosts get the early lead with three well worked tries inside 20 minutes.
Paisley mounted a bit of a come back with two tries of their own, but careless turn overs were capatilised on by West who had scored five tries by the break.
The second half bore witness to paisley playing some of their best rugby so far this season - but as individuals - the teamwork should have been better and it was all a little disjointed.
And although Paisley got a third try it was West who were in control for much of the match.
Jack bagged two superb tries and Thomas again got himself on the score-sheet, forcing his way through no less than three West defenders. But with the game more or less lost with twenty minutes to go the coaches took the opportunity to try players out of position and rotate the team.
Undoubtedly this created more gaps for the host team who ran in some soft tries, but Paisley will be better for it as the last two games against top opposition has provided a much needed learning platform from which progress can be made.
There were a few big players missing and that told today on the team, but the boys who trapped, to a man, put in a massive physical effort, West were just better on the day.
MOTM was extremely difficult to award as each boy played out of their skins, but Euan Smith just seemed to be everywhere, aggressive going forward and fearless in defence - well done.
