Under 16's Paisley 14 - 21 Whitecraigs
The one that got away
Paisley welcomed Whitecraigs for possibly the last 15 man game of the season on a lovely sunny day and on a fine playing surface.
The visitors started the liveliest with a flurry of aggressive phases inside the home teams territory and it wasn't long before their first try was registered.
Undeterred, Paisley started to switch on and as good as dominated the remainder of the half with some superb support play and fancy hands putting Sean in under the posts to equal the scoreline. For the remainder of the match Paisley outmanned their opposition in both scrum and lineout with the front row having a particularly splendid day at the office and Mikey proving his worth at the lineout. A 22 penalty bamboozled the visitors, but their defence just managed to hold Jack up as he crossed the try line.
Half time Paisley 7 - 7 Whitecraigs
The second half started with a bang for the home team and Whitecraigs struggled to handle their oppositions back line, Jack in particular, and he bagged a deserved try after rounding three or four potential tacklers getting in under the posts, which once again, Gregor converted.
With the home team in control until the last ten minutes of the second half the game should have been secured, but lapses in concentration started to creep in as legs began to tire and Whitecraigs seized their opportunity by scoring two late quick tries courtesy of some lazy cover tackling from their hosts and with that the match was lost.
A late rally not good enough at the end.
Two lessons learned here - stay switched on right to the very end and never give up.
A match lost, but a lot can be taken from the game. The front row were superb and the locks battled hard at the ruck. The back row got plenty of ball and tackled like lions all day. 9 and ten played with flair and kept their wits about them at all times and the backs had a field day in attack and (with the exception of the last ten minutes) their defence was solid.
MOTM for tenacity in disrupting Whitecraigs ball all day long and brilliant tackling goes to Cammy McAuley, which to the delight of the coaches was one of the hardest awards this season as there were so many good performances.
Well done to everyone and look forward to the Team meal on the 29th where the end of season awards will be presented.
