Parkgate lose in the league for the first time since the 29th of September!

Parkgate were condemned to their second loss in a week after a late goal from Kieran Hirst sealed the points for Worsbrough Bridge Athletic at Roundwood.

In a hard-fought match, both sides struggled to take a controlling hand as the game threw up few chances of note. Whilst the away side appeared to dominate possession in the early stages of proceedings, it proved difficult to create any clear-cut chances, with the Steelmen edging their way into the game.

As the half wore on, the home side began to pose more of a threat, pumping crosses and set pieces into the Worsbrough box. The score, however, remained goalless at the interval.

Half-time: Parkgate 0-0 Worsbrough Bridge

The game somewhat livened up at the start of the second-half, with both teams creating openings in the backlines of one another.

Around midway through the second period, Worsbrough went close to breaking the deadlock. The Steelmen, however, somehow managed to clear the danger following a goalmouth scramble in which Chris Butt, and defenders alike, flung themselves at the ball.

The game appeared to be coasting towards a draw, and then, in the 86th minute, Worsbrough all but sealed the three points. Play was quickly moved down the right-hand side by the visitors, and after the ball was squared across the box, Kieran Hirst slammed home to provoke jubilant scenes on the away bench.

Parkgate attempted to try and rescue something from the game in the following minutes, but ultimately fell to their first league defeat since September 29th.
