The Steelmen make it 8 league games unbeaten with a victory over Nostell Miners Welfare at Roundwood.

Parkgate hit the ground running and forged the first real chance of the game after only 4 minutes as Nathan Forbes-Swindells outwitted the offside trap but could only lash the ball wide from 15 yards out. The home side only had to wait another minute to open the scoring thanks to an own goal from defender Scott Colquhoun who bungled the ball into the net after a cross from Ashley Worsfold on the right.

Parkgate continued to pressure the Nostell goal and a lovely ball from Danny Barlow fed Worsfold who was folied by a good stretching grab from goalkeeper Gavin Ansley.

After a quarter of an hour Forbes-Swindells rattled the post after outmuscling Nostell’s full-back and the rebound flew cruelly by the onrushing Chris Wood. The Steelmen were in total control now and a flick from Worsfold found Barlow who forced another good save from Ansley.

On 23 minutes Parkgate thought they had doubled their lead as a good corner from Matt Outram found Will Senior who’s powerful header was cleared off the line.

It took until the 38th minute for Nostell to cause Parkgate any real danger as Forbes-Swindells tussled with Franck Zalo on the edge of the Steelmen’s penalty area resulting in the referee awarding a free-kick to Nostell on the left which was well punched clear by Jamie Bailey.

On the stroke of half-time Danny Barlow fired home from 18 yards after a fluent counter-attack from Worsfold.

Two long range efforts by either team started the second half as Nostell seeked to get back into the game. After 52 minutes they did just that with the lively Ernest Boafo firing home from 20 yards after a strong run.

The newly buoyed Nostell were now having a good spell with their attacks channelling through Boafo but it was Parkgate who struck next on 57 minutes with Danny Barlow showing good footwork and finishing in a crowded box.

Parkgate couldn’t finish the battling Nostell off and the Wakefield outfit grabbed another goal from a close range header by defender Joshua Hope on 63 minutes.

Nostell were now really stretching the Parkgate backline but they held out, with the help of good saves by Bailey, long enough to see Worsfold seal the game with a lovely worked goal that he finished excellently from a tight angle.

There was enough time left to see two avoidable red cards as both Senior for Parkgate and Wayne Ball were sent off for two bookable offences.

The Steelmen look to keep their good league form going as they enter a busy period of games starting on Tuesday night (10th) away at Arnold Town and on Saturday (14th) away at Armthorpe Welfare.
