Rotherham United were the next side to visit Roundwood during the pre-season and despite the poor weather a crowd of a 1000 saw an entertaining game. Rotherham’s passing game was good to watch and yet they were equalled in their endeavours by a determined Parkgate side.
Rotherham thought they had the lead on 12 minutes but Jonson Clarke-Harris was rightly given as offside. Despite a good performance Parkgate fell behind on 42 minutes thanks to a header from Kirk Broadfoot. Multiple substitutions by Rotherham at half time saw an entirely different team playing. One of several trialists made it 2-0 on 53 minutes with a close range shot and on 69 minutes an own goal by Craig Laight made it 3-0. A superb run and angled shot by Danny Ward 0n 73 minutes saw the lead become 4-0, and a minute later Jerry Yates made it 5-0 . Danny Ward wasn't finished as he scored on 78 minutes and in third minute of stoppage time to seal the victory.
Parkgate can (again) take a lot from this game in readiness for the new season and played with a lot of heart.
