Garforth Town 2-2 Parkgate

Garforth had to settle for a draw against struggling Parkgate after a sub-par performance led to a 2-2 draw. Report by Samuel Bannister.
Town started the game brightly, with Sean Hunter hitting the bar early on after receiving the ball from Sanchez Payne. Mark Simpson had a shot blocked on the line by a defender but was ruled offside anyway. Lee Turner also had an opportunity, but his effort was saved. However, it was Parkgate who took the lead after 14 minutes. A free kick was swung in from the left hand side, and a faint touch carried it beyond Stephen Weatherill for 1-0.
The goal gave the visitors some momentum, and they had a couple of opportunities to double their lead. Zak Khalifa was heavily involved on the left wing, with Weatherill preventing him twice.
Midway through the first half, Mitch Hamilton - making his first start since returning from injury - cut inside and shot over the bar, as Garforth tried to get back into the game.
A few minutes after, Hunter found himself one-on-one with the keeper, but could only side foot the ball into Levi Owen’s arms.
James Beaston had an interesting effort from a long way out, which Owen had to parry after it swerved.
Parkgate went on a counter attack after Matty Savage lost possession, again going down the left wing before the ball found its way to Daniel Flynn, who shot over.
Looking to react after a sluggish first half, Garforth quickly equalised on 48 minutes. Turner received the ball at his feet and took his time to find the bottom corner of Owen’s goal.
Within a matter of seconds, Garforth had turned the game on its head, as Simpson made it 2-1. Turner was involved again, this time turning provider with a cross from the right.
The visitors weren’t giving up though. A free kick led to an unchallenged header, and another chance came by way of Simon Mirfin.
Their pressure paid off on 70 minutes as they brought it back to 2-2. It was a soft goal for Garforth to concede, as a mix up at the back ended in a second goal for Nathan Joynes.
After equalising, Parkgate looked to regain the lead they had taken in the first half, with a break down the right wing. However, when the ball came to Khalifa from a cross, he couldn’t get his foot around it, and shot wide.
Owen was forced into another save after an audacious Simpson effort from distance. At the other end, Town lost possession again, leading to an off-target Flynn shot.
Town had their backs to the wall in the last ten minutes, with Kearsley having to head clear, Beaston making a block, and Weatherill catching a long shot.
In stoppage time, Beaston was sent off after a ball over the top put Town in jeopardy, and he brought down the attacker. From the resulting free kick, Parkgate hit the bar.
That was that, meaning a point apiece for the two sides.
