It was a bad day at the office for Parkgate as they suffered a heavy home defeat to West Yorkshire outfit Brighouse Town.
After a scrappy opening period which saw Parkgate’s Brian Cusworth fire a volley wide and Town’s Tom Matthews have a close range shot blocked, the visitors opened the scoring in the 33rd minute. Luke Gibson latched onto a clever through ball and cleverly rounded Jamie Bailey to slot home.
Parkgate responded well with good play from Brian Cusworth and Ashley Worsfold coming close to the equaliser but Brighouse doubled their lead after 39 minutes as Tom Matthews skilfully controlled on the edge of the box and finished well to make it 0-2.
The second half didn’t get any better for Parkgate as Brighouse extended their lead in a blistering ten minute spell. Tom Matthews notched his second goal of the game on 52 minutes as he beat the Parkgate offside trap to easily stroke home past Jamie Bailey. Three minutes later Danny Hull bundled home from close range and on 57 minutes Parkgate defender Matt Griffin was unfortunate to direct a cross into his own goal.
There was no respite for Parkgate as Adam Wilson lashed home a volley after a corner was flicked into his path to make the score line 6-1 to the visitors after 63 minutes.
Substitute Chris Wood neatly finished to grab a consolation goal for the Steelmen on 68 minutes, but James Sutcliffe compounded a day to forget for Parkgate with a stunning free kick from 25 yards in the 83rd minute.
