GLOBAL APPEAL?

The players returned to pre-season training this week and were “put through their paces ” in an enjoyable training session (which avoided the temptation to use the nearby hills). It was also encouraging to hear that several player's have been going on regular long distance runs or visiting the gym to maintain their fitness levels in the closed season.

We now have some dates for your diaries: The club's Christmas Dinner and Dance is on Friday 4th December and we have confirmed friendlies for the 23rd August and 30th August.

Historically our team's website hit increases once the result have been added to the website. Based on this I have concluded that at our level, people do not want to give up a Sunday afternoon to watch a game of football, but are happy to spend a minute or two online to see how their local team got on, hence one of the reason's why I try and keep it fresh and up to date.

Following a LFA workshop that I attended a couple of season's ago I set up a team twitter account as advised with the basic aim to put our results up after a match. This week I carried out an analytic report on our twitter account and was surprised with the results.

In a brief summary of the report of our 1,498 twitter followers 91% are sports connected in and around football of which 86% are male and 14% are female.

Demography our following reaches across three continents Europe, North America and Africa and as expected our follower's are mainly UK (86%) based.

Internationally we have a 14% following with Spain (2%) leading the European countries whilst further a field we have follower's in the USA (5%) and South Africa. (> 1%.)

The results across the UK seem to indicate that we have a national spread of follower's with the highest concentration in London (24%) and the South East (12%) at 36% which I would have expected as we play our football within this region.

Elsewhere across the country we seem to have an even balance of followers: North West England (11%) East of England (7%), South West England ( 7%) Scotland (6%) Wales (6%) Yorkshire/Humber (6%) East Midlands (4%).

I am not 100% sure what to make of the findings if anything, except that due to power of social media our result on a Sunday now reaches people across the UK and beyond.

Moving forward I would like try twitting the scores from pitch -side either as the goals go in or at half-time/full-time in our friendlies to see if it is a viable option to do for next season.

Not much more to feedback on, have a good week.

Andy
