The Closed Season.

We are making steady progress with our preparations for next season and I am already looking forward to the challenge of a new campaign.

The closed season is a busy time for club secretaries up and down the land with all the administration work that goes on to ensure that the club is ready for the first game of the season. Clubs /teams have to be affiliated with the relevant county FA, Insured and the players registered.

Fortunately for me, we have managed to do the majority of the secretarial stuff before the Euro's started and I can relax in my garden and read some books.

Before our break we held a player registration day for existing players, this turned out a prudent exercise as we now have a clear indication of how many players we have retained and how many vacancies we have within the squad.

It was also a good opportunity to speak to the players about the plans for next season and have the players input into our plans. This was also an appropriate moment to update them on the clubs development projects as they affect the team in a positive way.

I have started to refresh our website for next season, however it should be noted that I am unable to complete the updates until after our league's AGM or when we return to pre - season training.

One of the changes I have added is a link highlighting the progress of the “Anniversary Project”, which is basically:

  • Spectator barriers around the first team pitch
  • Providing a match officials changing room
  • Reclaiming land to become a grass training area.

Over the coming month's I will when and where possible take some photo's of any significance progress being made and add it to the site.

The club has also produced it's own kit brochure which has distributed to all team coaches and managers, this has allowed me the opportunity to add to the website an official club “shop” which has I doubled up as a “sponsor brochure” for the team.

Not much more to feedback on at the moment, so it's back to the deckchair and books in the garden and the odd Euro match thrown in for good measure.
