I am currently getting withdrawal symptoms from having no live games to watch this weekend, I had planned to see the senior mens team in a cup semi-final and then the ladies in Alyesford on Sunday but the snow has put pay to that.
As I look out of my office window having my lunch, I see the sun out the snow melting very quickly off the roof tops, unfortunately for grassroots football it seems to take ages for the snow to melt on the pitches. For me the issue of postpone games does not lie in me, not standing in the cold to watch the team play, but with the knock on effect of having a back log of fixtures to try and get in by the end of the season.
Currently we are the only fixture on Easter Sunday which has annoyed our more religious players. I am also conscious that Bexley Park will be taking the goals down in April to prepare the pitches for the cricket season and with the club having 21 teams all looking to complete their backlog matches the clamber for pitch space will be on, fortunately for us we have only one home fixture accommodate so I do not see this as no major problem.
I deliberately did not enter us for the County cups this season in an attempt to free up fixture dates so that we could end the season before the exam periods starts for our younger players doing their A levels, this is still our intention.
Currently our mathematical safety target is 26 points and it is frustratingly annoying having an enforced winter break and not being to play games to try an get points on the board. On the plus side it does allow time for players of all teams to recover from knocks and injuries In our case when we do return we should have Stacey back training with the squad thus for the first time this season having a fully fit squad to choice from.
The transfer window closes at the end of the month and we have done our business for the season and as a result we are very happy with the diversity of talent the squad gives us.
Off the pitch, we made our first return from our shop £1.20, with Valentine day coming up anyone reading this is thinking of buying a gift online for your loved one purchase via our shop and we can get some money back for the team. I am still deliberating on the subject of putting on a stand at the Danson Show. And will probably make an informed decision nearer the time.
Enjoy your weekend off, and let hope tat global warming kicks in and melts the snow.
Andy
