Rovers lose to top side Yate Report by Jamie Duncan

With Yate having scored 18 goals in their previous three games, Rovers knew they had to be on their best form if they were to get anything from the game.

The game started off very open; both teams with attacking formations leading to a number of opportunities being created in the first 10 minutes. Both teams looked vulnerable defensively however it was Yate who were able to take advantage from a counter-attacking move on the right, which was neatly finished to put the visitors deservedly ahead.

Rovers at times played some decent football through the midfield, but failed to test their goalkeeper. However Paulton’s equaliser came from a long ball kicked out the hands of keeper Charlie Philips, which fell to striker James Phillips who managed to get in ahead of the Yate defence and calmly finish into the bottom left corner.

Yate created many chances throughout the half, and Rovers had keeper Phillips to thank for a series of outstanding saves to stay in the game. Rover’s best chance fell to Rory Morgan whose shot on the turn trickled past the left hand post.

Rovers came out second half very slowly, failing to take control of the game. Yate continued to put pressure on every pass and continued to test the Paulton keeper.

Despite the Paulton teams best efforts they were unable to prevent Yate from getting that crucial second goal. Coming mid way through the second half, Paulton lost the ball on the right side, which was drilled into the bottom corner.
Yate secured the three points shortly after, a corner which Paulton failed to clear ending up in the back of the net.

No one could fault the effort and desire of the Paulton team throughout the 90 minutes. However they faced a very tough Yate team in great form that play entertaining football.
