As the mild, dry winter ensured the completion of the league fixtures earlier than usual Rovers arranged a four team tournament featuring Radstock Town, Glastonbury Town and Hengrove Athletic. It was decided the tournament would be in memory of Derek Baber who played for both Rovers and Radstock and was held in such great esteem in local football with his many years service to the game both on and off the field.
Unfortunately Mother Nature intervened and it proved impossible to complete all the fixtures due to heavy rain. However from the results to date it is clear Rovers would have won the competition in any event with 5 wins out of 5 and a goal difference of +21. Therefore the trophy was awarded to them and it was presented by Derek's wife, Oriel, in the club. It is hoped this competition will be continued in some format in subsequent seasons and we are delighted that Derek's wife and son were able to attend the inaugural presentation.
The Rovers management took this opportunity to take some team photos and in particular pay tribute to those who will be too old to play next season.
As always we are indebted to Haydn Jones for taking the pictures and copies will be available from him in due course.
