Our first cup game of the season again ended in an away defeat that could have been very different.
We started brightly and pushed into a 7 nil lead after some great forward phases were finished by Snowy and Alex knotched the conversion from the sideline. This was after we had butchered a clear 2 on 1.
From the kick off we put ourselves under pressure by trying to play rugby in our own 22 and this lead to Bakewell running a try into the corner after creating some good space for themselves.
Again we pushed ourselves into their half and won a penalty with some strong play from the pack. Alex slotted the points again to put us 10 - 5 up.
From that point on we seemed to be punished each time we made a poor decision and with an inside centre that was kicking very well - never really got enough play in the opposition 22. 2 tries and a penalty from Bakewell made the final score 18 - 10. We had good chances to win this game - but a mixture of great scramnble defence from Bakewell and poor finishing or decision making meant it wasn't to be.
Again our effort was first class. Our own set play very strong and generally our ball carrying in the forwards good. But we yet again suffered from some poor decsion making / discipline / execution when it mattered and if I have to type this one more time in a match report I will eat my hat !!!
Man of the Match was Snowy - with some great work in the loose and a well finished try. SH goes to Shane for "that kick" early in the game!! Never again Shane, never again.
Matlock at home next week and a chance to make me have to write something different - I hope.. Well it is at home - so it@s a start. For those that have forgot we play at the Ron Rosin ground on Burnt Stump hill.
