Deja Vu or Groundhog Day again .... Naaaaaaaaa
Well bugger me with a cattle prod - we won. It was a great game against strong opposition that had only lost once all year, kicked our butt on the last two visit’s to their manor and pushed us all the way on the day.
Why / How / When
Why:
Because we had a squad at the game and all 22 played their part. Great to have Bowlsey back and healthy.
Because we had a game plan and had the ability to stick to it's essence whilst having the courage to move away from elements of it, when we needed to.
Because we took our chances, kicked our conversions and made tackles at key times.
How:
Strong set pieces
Some good defence - closing down as a line
Some good hands on the back of good support play
Some great individual moments - Alex's first try and his second conversion from the touch line. Jonny's habitual try and scrambling defence from 15. Strawson's break away try.
We kept our discipline - we are giving away less penalties and annoying less officials - no surprises this is linked to better results.
When:
This result started with the performance against Kesteven and carried on into the training we have had since that game.
When we set our goals at the start of the season - we want to be better and are starting to improve week in week out.
In the warm up I turned to Jud & Dave and said something has changed and as a unit you are maturing - starting to take yourselves seriously.
What's next?
We enjoy the rest of the season and continue to build on what we are doing. We have a new belief that we can compete and will get better.
We keep on it people. There are 2 great players (Snowy & Chubbs) who we didn't have on Sunday and when we get them both back we have 24 players who want to train and play with each other. Another of our goals at the start of the year.
We keep our discipline and take pride in it.
We set our sights on a top 4 finish next year and qualification for the National Cup.
We work our nuts off at school and full fill our potential in what is an important year for all of you.
Men of the Match where Alex Barton and Joseph Rhed Heywood.
Shit Head award Jack Stevenson for too long in the shower / having your girlfriend at a Rugby game.
Next training is Thursday at Calverton.
