PEACEHAVEN & TELSCOMBE FC manager Shaun Saunders has stepped down.

Saunders, now in his fourth season as first team manager, is taking a back seat because of family reasons. He will continue to be heavily involved with the club's development at committee level.

First team coach Tony Coade has been appointed first team manager and is looking forward to his new challenge.

When Saunders took charge of first team duties during season 2011/12 season it was off the back of a managerial merry-go-round.

His influence steadied the ship in preparation for the club's onslaught on the Sussex County League title the following season but not before the Saunders family had to deal with an unimaginable tragedy - the passing of their son and Peacehaven footballer Connor.

At the start of 2012/13 season UEFA B coach and former Haven player Tony Coade joined Saunders and the two of them formed a dynamic working relationship and lifted the Sussex County League title and promotion to the Ryman South League.

Last season was the best in the club's history when The Magpies, who were being tipped by many as certain relegation candidates, confounded their critics and won the Ryman South League with a record number of points.

On top of that extraordinary achievement the club then lifted the Sussex Senior Cup 3-0 when they defeated Ryman Premier League side, Bognor Regis Town at the AMEX Stadium.

At the start of this season The Magpies were again on the trophy trail when they won the Sussex Community Shield.

Shaun Saunders has played a massive role in shaping the club's future on the pitch and his contribution should never be underestimated or forgotten.

In Tony Coade, the club have a brilliant successor. He's a top coach, passionate about doing the right things on the pitch and ensuring players are well prepared and looked after and an all round good football man.
