Match Reports
Peebles RFC – sponsored by Glenrath Farms – travelled through to Braidholm to play GHA in BT National League 1 unfortunately losing by 28 – 13 thus returning empty-handed and slipping a couple of places down the table.
The seconds – sponsored by FIRST XV and rugbystuff.com – played Biggar 2nds last Friday night under the new floodlights in Hay Lodge Park as part of the opening ceremonies for the improvement works which have now been completed. A win by 20 – 14 set the seal on a marvellous night for Peebles RFC.
The eagerly awaited local derby between Peebles Colts , sponsored by BARC coach hire, and Gala Wanderers, kicked off at Hay Lodge in absolutely perfect playing conditions. Peebles Colts took the game straight to Gala over the first 15 minutes and had it not been for the Wee Pees suffering from their usual ‘white line/my ball fever’ could possibly have been three tries up before half time. However Gala reversed the flow of play putting Peebles under severe pressure but just couldn’t get points on the board, missing a penalty just on the half hour and then losing a player to the sin bin minutes afterwards.
Following a half time pep talk from their coaches the Peebles squad picked up the pace of their game and started the second half determined to make up for lost opportunities. After a breakdown engineered by Jackson, King and Scott, just short of the Gala try line, the ball was fed from one side of the pitch to the other, through the safe hands of Anderson& Lamb to Willie Napier who crashed over to open the score. Further tries followed on from Buster Davidson, James Walpole (converted by Buster ) and Euan Jackson – all without reply from Gala. In the middle of this run of tries the referee balanced the sin bin awards by yellow carding a Peebles player for what the obviously partisan crowd sawas a robust tackle – needless to say the referee ruled otherwise.
All in all this was a fiercely contested match and credit to both sides but at the final whistle the Wee Pees had picked up the points against Gala for the first time in six years. Final score Peebles Colts 22 – Gala Wanderers 0.

Hay Lodge Lottery The final draw took place last Friday night and the following teams were drawn – Galashiels, Kelso, Jedburgh, Berwick, Peebles Colts and Selkirk Youth Club
Again there was no lucky punter scooping the jackpot, closest entries was Norman Elder – with 4 correct out of the six.
As announced last Friday with there being no outright winner a supplementary draw was held for a consolation prize of £500 among those present at Hay Lodge on the night. This was won by Tony Leighton.

Peebles Piranhas - Last weekend the P4-7 Piranhas were on the A72 again, this time to Melrose. The boys performed exceptionally well in all year groups. The P6 reached their final against Gala. It was a 4-4 draw with the outcome decided on the toss of a coin - unfortunately the call went the wrong way. All the kids did their parents, coaches and club proud.
Sunday 5th October - This weekend training is at HAY LODGE starting at 10am for ALL age groups.
