The Gytes Gossip column for the Peeblesshire News edition 21.11.2014.

Tomorrow is a blank day for the 1st XV while the 2nd XV travel to Melrose to play the Storm in a Border Cup fixture - kick-off 2.00pm.
The Colts – sponsored by BARC Coach Hire – have a home fixture in the Border Semi-Junior league when they welcome league leaders Jed Thistle to Hay Lodge Park. A big supporting crowd would be appreciated. Kick off for Colts fans is at 2:00pm.
On Sunday the Peebles RFC Under 16 squad – sponsored by BARC Taxi Hire – is in action at home when Duns are the visitors to Hay Lodge Park. Again supporters are very welcome to come and see the future club stars in action. Kick off is at 1:00pm.
Match Reports
Peebles RFC – sponsored by Glenrath Farms – were away at Stoneyhill for the BT Cup clash with Musselburgh – unfortunately they suffered a heavy defeat by 47 – 8 to exit the competition.
The seconds – sponsored by FIRST XV and rugbystuff.com – were in action on Friday night when they hosted Gala A in the Border 2nd XV cup at the Gytes. This was a step up in intensity for the seconds as Gala play in a higher league and the squad delighted both the supporters and coach Peter Rainey with a 7 – 7 draw.
With the intention of getting their league campaign back on track Peebles Colts, sponsored by BARC Coach Hire, hosted Hawick PSA at Hay Lodge. The Wee Pees encountered a resolute defence from PSA but managed to pick up four tries in the first half one of which was converted by Buster Davidson. Two of the first half tries were carbon copies of each other, courtesy of powerful driving by the forwards and the handling skills of Jamie Atkinson.
Half time score 22 – 0.
Peebles then took control in the second half with some fast flowing rugby, picking up a further six tries equally spread between the forwards and the backs. All credit to the PSA side - at no point in the match did they throw in the towel keeping the defensive pressure on Peebles until the final whistle.
Final score 63 -0.
Many thanks to the highly vocal support – much appreciated.
The Peebles Under 16 squad – sponsored by BARC Taxi Hire – were in action under the Philiphaugh floodlights to play Selkirk on Monday evening in the Borders Under 16 league – returning with a superb win by 39 – 10 under their belts.
