Match Reports
Peebles Seconds – sponsored by FIRST XV and rugbystuff.com – were in action on Saturday when they travelled down to Melrose to play the Storm in the Borders 2nd XV cup. Again this was a step up in intensity for the seconds as Melrose Storm play in a higher league and unfortunately the squad lost by 38 – 8.
Peebles Colts, sponsored by BARC Coach Hire, hosted league leaders Jed Thistle at Hay Lodge on Saturday and in keeping with what is now a regular feature for the
Wee Pees got off to a very slow start, finding themselves two tries behind in the first ten minutes. Despite some resolute defensive work from the home side the half time
score of 0 – 27 reflected the balance of play although the loss of a key player to a yellow card didn’t help the cause!
The half time chat from the coaches clearly worked wonders and as the old saying ‘ A game of two halves’ goes, Peebles took the honours in the second half by 15 points to ten
sadly losing the match however over all by 15 -37.
Taking the points for the home side were Sandy Lamb, Neil Pate and Robert Smith whose try came as a result of a powerful driving maul – this is rapidly becoming a home side
trademark.
As always, many thanks to the home support who are now turning out in great numbers.
Peebles U16’s, sponsored by BARC Taxis, welcomed old rivals Duns to Hay Lodge on Sunday and the home side were clearly looking to build on their mid week victory down at Selkirk.
There’s no doubt that the new playing surface at Hay Lodge lends itself to fast flowing rugby and that’s exactly what the home side delivered with a well worked try in the far corner in the very first minute of the game. Another three tries (two of which were converted) were added and at half time the referee’s score card read 24 – 0.
The second half saw Duns concede another 4 tries (three conversions) and the full time whistle came with the final score of 50 – 0. Try scorers included Roddy Guiney, Robert Harrison, George Freeman, Callum Gray, Sean Berthlelson and Alex Tate.
Overall this was a very impressive team performance but no doubt that the man of the match was George Freeman with some great kicking from hand, positional play and slotting conversions from very acute angles.
Despite the score line all credit has to go to Duns for at no point in the match did they throw in the towel and ensured that Peebles had to fight for every point.
Many thanks to the impressive home support.
