For this weeks Peeblesshire News on 23.11.12.

Tonight the seconds – sponsored by FIRST XV and rubgystuff.com – meet Melrose 2nds in a Border 2nd XV cup tie at the Gytes kick-off 7:30pm.

The first fifteen have no fixture. However there is still plenty to see with the Colts- supported by BARC Coach Hire – entertaining Selkirk Youth Club in the Border Semi-Junior League at Hay Lodge Park – kick-off is 2:00pm for all supporters. It is hoped that with this being the only game on in Peebles that a big crowd will make the journey up to the park to cheer on the boys.

On Sunday the Peebles Under 16 squad – supported by Bordermix – have an away Borders Under 16 League fixture with Melrose Under 16 on the 3G surface at Netherdale - kick off 12:40pm - intending travelling support please note the venue. Can players please make their own travel arrangements , ideally sharing a lift with others, arriving at Netherdale no later than 11:30?

Couple of points for players & coaches:-

Boots must be clean, with no mud on them (there are brushes situated around the pitch area) and metal blades/flat soled shoes are not allowed.

Last Friday night the seconds - sponsored by FIRST XV and rugbystuff.com – were in action at the Gytes under the floodlights when they played Boroughmuir 3rds in a rearranged RBS Reserve League East 1 fixture. They played with skill and enterprise running out 48 – 12 winners – an Adam Moffat hat-trick of tries being one of the highlights.

Last Sunday the Peebles Under 16 side – supported by Bordermix - met Jedforest Under 16’s in a rearranged Border Under 16 league match at Violet Bank. A strong and well-drilled Jedforest ran out 43 - 12 winners but the Peebles boys themselves played well, never gave up, and scored two fine tries – just reward for their effort and enterprise.

Tomorrow is a busy day with the Eastgate Clubrooms playing host to a coffee morning and craft fair from 10:00am till 2:00pm followed by the Scotland v Tonga International on the big screen at 3:00pm. In the evening it is time to don the tartan for the St Andrew’s Scottish Nite – cost is £15 including supper – to book contact Jim Currie – 01721 740274 or 07742 919694.

The Peebles Accordian and Fiddle Club meets in the Eastgate Clubrooms on the last Thursday of each month with the next night being 29th November when the guest band will be Dochie McCallum and Friends.

On Friday 30th November members can indulge in some mental gymnastics when the Peebles RFC Quiz night takes place at 7:30 pm – quizmaster and question setter David Cornwall will come up with the usual mix of tasks to test the best. Members are asked to support this event by either entering a team or being willing to be part of a team. These nights are good fun, despite the anguish of finding answers to the pop music questions when you are a Radio 4 listener.

Finally Warren Kearney headed to Murrayfield last Sunday with a spring in his step, having won the SRU Try of the Month competition for October, to collect his award prior to the Scotland v New Zealand match.

Warren, who hails from Dunedin in New Zealand, won the try accolade for his score against Hawick YM on Saturday 6 October. Warren, who also coaches the Under 16’s, said: “It’s a bit of a shock to have won this award, it was a team try that I’m lucky enough to have been rewarded for. We’ve been playing an expansive game of rugby this season and that has seen lots of players in the team score some good tries.” Warren won two tickets to a home international match.
