This weeks Gytes Gossip for the Peeblesshire News on 7.12.12

Tomorrow attention switches to the RBS National Cup when Peebles RFC sponsored by Glenrath Farm Eggs entertain Jedforest in the South Regional Qualifying competition at the Gytes – kick off at 3:00pm. Having had a lean time of late in the league Jedforest will be looking to the cup to bolster their season and Peter Wright’s men will have to be at their very best to take the spoils in this contest. The match is sponsored by BARC Travel, Renwick and Weir, Shirley’s Sheilas, Evolution Asset Management and Preacher’s Stag. All eyes will be on the weather forecast in the hope that we get a thaw for the weekend but things do not look too promising. Training will be at the Riding School this week and should there be no pitches playable in Peebles ( Walkerburn have a home game ) the coaches and Graeme Paterson – Director of Rugby - have decided that, as it is a Cup game, and in the interest of getting a game under their belts after the lay-off, we would be prepared to travel to Jed should their pitch be playable.

The 2nd XV – supported by FIRSTXV and rugbystuff.com – are also at home tomorrow when they host Lasswade 2nds in RBS Reserve league East 1 at Hay Lodge Park – kick off is at 2:00pm. They will be hoping to continue their good form of late with a home win.

The Colts – supported by BARC Coach Hire – are on the road to play Duns Colts in the Border Semi-Junior League. Kick off is at 2:00pm for travelling Colts fans.

The only winner last weekend was the weather when the heavy frost took its toll on the fixture card all over the country. Unfortunately for Peebles the Howe of Fife fixture against Lasswade was a survivor and a bonus point win for Howe saw them leapfrog Peebles at the top of the table. The seconds and colts games were also victims of the weather.

Tomorrow evening members will be entertained by singer Susan Weir after the Jedforest RBS South Regional Cup match. There is an open darts tournament on Thursday 20th and on Saturday the 22nd there is a singer and Christmas Party Night after the Perthshire game. Over the Christmas Holiday there are the usual two Discos on Christmas Eve and Boxing Night – both are £3 entry if before 10:30pm and £5 after – patrons should note that the club operates a Challenge-25 policy.
