This weeks Gytes Gossip for the Peeblesshire News on 1.2.13.

Tonight - Peebles RFC – sponsored by Glenrath Farm Eggs – are back in RBS South Regional Cup action when Selkirk visit the Gytes. Selkirk are currently sitting mid-table in the RBS National League – a level above Peebles – and always provide formidable opposition with their blend of hard, physical forward play and enterprise in the backs – not the least from the mercurial Fraser Harkness. This will be a big test for Peter Wright’s men and ideal preparation - along with the visit of Jedforest next Friday - for the run in to the league finish. This match is sponsored by Gordon Renwick and Robbie Brockie.

Pitch side catering will be available from Thomson’s Snack van with their usual varied menu of burgers, rolls, hot and cold drinks.

Tomorrow, the seconds – sponsored by FIRST XV and rugbystuff.com – have a possible home RBS Reserve League East 1 fixture with Jedforest A at Hay Lodge Park – kick off 1:30pm. Check the website or noticeboard for confirmation.

The Colts – supported by BARC Coach Hire – are away from home when they travel into Edinburgh to play Boroughmuir Colts in a re-arranged National Under-18 Youth League Cup fixture at Meggetland – kick-off 2:00pm. The team bus leaves at 11:45am and may have space for supporters – see the club website for details and contacts.

On Sunday - Peebles RFC Under-16’s - sponsored by Bordermix - will be on the road as their challenge in the Edinburgh & District U16 Regional Cup kicks off with a trip to our near neighbours, Biggar U16's. The match is scheduled to kick off at 13:00 and the bus will leave the Post Office at 11:30. Hopefully the lads can count on some parents going along to lend their vocal support & there will be a few spare seats on the bus. The other teams in Peebles’ league are Linlithgow and Royal High with both coming to Peebles - dates for these matches will be posted later.

Again the big winner last weekend was the weather when the frost and snow forced the postponement of all club fixtures – we await re-arrangement dates for replays.

Tomorrow sees the start of the six nations tournament and as normal all of the matches will be shown in the Eastgate clubrooms on the big screen – first up is Wales v Ireland which kicks off at 1:30pm followed at 4:00pm by the Calcutta Cup clash between Scotland and England from ‘The Cabbage Patch’ where the Scots have not won since 1983 – can we break the hoodoo this season – only time will tell. On Sunday Italy play France – kick off 3:00pm. Watch out for Jim Currie’s special six nations’ offers over the series.

Tomorrow morning the Colts will be hosting a coffee morning in the Eastgate clubrooms 10:00am till 12 noon – usual stalls – members are asked to support this Colts venture.

Tomorrow night there will be a ‘Bucking Bronco’ night in the Eastgate Clubrooms for all the aspiring cowboys and cowgirls in the membership this is followed by a disco – members and guests – please note that the club operates a challenge 25 policy.

And finally – for all you users of smartphones – you can now access Peebles RFC club news on the move by downloading the Pitchero app to your device. See the club website for details.
