Tomorrow - Peebles RFC – sponsored by Glenrath Farms – are back at the Gytes for a home fixture in Booker Wholesale Border League against Kelso. This will be a difficult match for Peter Wright’s squad against a side which plays in the National League but, following a good showing down at Poynder Park in the Border Qualifying Cup earlier in the season, hopes are high for a home victory in the match which kicks off at 3:00pm. This match is sponsored by A T Jeffrey Blacksmith and Agricultural Engineer, and Scotch Lamb Marketing. Andrew Barr is the match ball sponsor.

Pitchside catering will be by Thomson’s Snack Van with the usual menu of hot and cold filled rolls, coffees, teas, hot chocolate, and cold drinks.

The seconds – sponsored by FIRST XV and rugbystuff.com – are at home when they play Preston Lodge 2nds in RBS Reserve League East 1 at Hay Lodge Park. Kick off is 3:00pm for 2nds fans.

On Sunday the High School Senior XV and Under 16’s play host to Shawnigan Lake School from Vancouver Canada who are touring in the UK.

On Tuesday evening the High School Seniors travel into Edinburgh to play Morrison’s Academy from Crieff in the Brewin Dolphin Under 18 Scottish Schools Bowl final at Murrayfield – kick off is at 6:00pm for travelling supporters of the High School. Gytes Gossip wishes them well and hopes that the trophy returns to Peebles.

Last Saturday Glenrath Farms sponsored Peebles played what was probably their most important game in the last two season when they hosted Howe of Fife at the Gytes, in what was effectively a league title decider in RBS Championship League B. Peter Wright’s men won an extremely tight game 19 – 17 despite being outscored 3 – 1 in tries by the visitors. The finish to the game was very tense and the atmosphere was electric as both sides strove to take the points, urged on by both sets of supporters in the large crowd, but a late penalty goal sealed it for the home side, putting them into pole position in the league by 2 points, and probable promotion to the National League.

The seconds – sponsored by FIRST XV and rugbystuff.com – were away from home last Friday evening when they travelled into Edinburgh to play Murrayfield Wanderers in RBS Reserve League East 1 on the back pitches at the National Stadium. The result was – 26 – 12 for Murrayfield in a game which was fairly evenly matched – man of the match for Peebles was John Swanson according to team manager Ali Clyde.

The Colts – supported by BARC Coach Hire – were due to play Langholm Colts in the Border Cup last Friday evening but the fixture was changed late on to last night. The result will be published in next week’s column.

Peebles RFC Under 16's, sponsored by Bordermix, travelled into Edinburgh last Sunday to play the combined Forrester/Murrayfield Wanderers squad in the semi-final of the Edinburgh & District Under 16’s Cup in Arctic blizzard conditions.

Despite their early pressure Peebles couldn't capitalise against a much more powerful opposition who ran out winners by 46 -13. Tries came from Ross Thomson & Stuart Blackie with a penalty successfully converted by Buster Davidson. Peebles lost, in rapid succession, Andrew McLaren, Chris Grieve, Rhuaridh Britton, Buster Davidson and Blair Lawrie through injuries.

If there is sufficient interest the club will run a coach for supporters to the final league game against Morgan at Dundee – at a cost of £7.00 names to Gordon Brown asap please phone 722911, mob 07938102304 or email gordonrbrown@btinternet.com by Tuesday lunchtime – if you want to book a seat. The bus will leave Peebles at 12:00 noon from the East Station Car Park and return leaving Dundee at 6:00pm.
