Where football meets money-ball!

Pelsall Villa became the latest team to crumble under the weight of Bromsgrove Sporting’s unbeaten stroll to the league title in a stark reminder that money talks even at this tier of the football pyramid!

The Villains succumbed to one of their worst ever defeats in a 10-0 loss at The Victoria Ground but this isn’t a hard luck story, it’s a hard facts tale.

Sporting ran out easy winners in what would seem to have been a totally one sided game but for most of the first half Pelsall matched their hosts in all areas of the pitch. The Rouslers took the lead after 20 minutes but Villa should have scored at least two from the three clear chances they had before shipping a second goal just on half time. Parity at the midpoint wouldn’t have flattered the visitors whose footballing ability had their hosts wondering if the match was going to be a lot tougher than expected.

But ability needs energy levels, player preparation needs rewards Pelsall cannot offer, and once the energy ran out, the ability suffered… The gulf between the clubs was shown once Villa tired in the second half, the first of two penalties starting a 10-minute spell which bought 4 goals and any thoughts of an unlikely result for Pelsall were firmly dispelled.

In truth, it could have been more, but Pelsall had chances to at least get on the scoresheet. Mitch Teece troubling the home defence at every opportunity, Osiris Robertson’s stinging shot bringing a brilliant save from Bromsgrove keeper Jono Brown, and the Kidderminster Harriers loanee again saved well from Tom Baggott.

But the reality is, Bromsgrove can call on the backing that suggests they would not be out of place many leagues higher, so this was always going to be a game where comparison rather that expectation was the objective for Pelsall.

Villa continue their fight to pull clear of the relegation places with a home match next on Saturday 8th April against Bolehall Swifts, kick off 3pm at The Bush Ground.
