It was a day of what might have been for the Mini Pitmen today as they travelled down to Bridgend to play a double header against Bridgend Young Stars

As a result of the easter break it Penallta last played three weeks ago and their lack of match practice showed.

The first game was against Bridgend and it was a close affair with neither side dominating. Penallta's game plan is to spread the ball and use the pace in the backs. However today that game plan didn't happen. The team lacked the cohesion and confidence of their last few performances and were unable to get any kind of structure to their game. Bridgend scored first using their bigger players to drive over the line to score. Penallta responded with Luke Corten scoring in the corner after a great solo effort. In the second half it was much the same with the Penallta backs alway choosing to run into trouble instead of exploiting the space out wide. Bridgend scored again after Penallta failed to clear their line. In a repeat of his first half effort Luke Corten scored again to make it 2 apiece. Unfortunately the last word went to Bridgend when some weak tackling by just about every Penallta player allowed the oppostion to scramble over for the winning try.

Bridgend Young Stars 3 Penallta 2

Try Scorer Luke Corten X 2

Player of the Match Luke Corten for his tries and guts and determination.
