Caerphilly council £6m sporting academy plan unveiled

The proposed centre, backed by the Welsh Rugby Union and the Football Association of Wales, is to be on the former Ystrad Mynach Hospital site.

The plan is for two "third generation" (3G) artificial pitches for football and rugby teams, as well as training facilities for "elite" sports people.

The council said Newport Gwent Dragons and Cardiff City were also "excited" by the prospects offered by the development.
