The Storm Cub History
Penallta Storm was founded in 2009 with a small group of players from the then under 16s age group at Penallta RFC.

Driven by Steve Richards & Paddy Lintern, two now famous names came on board as coaches to introduce the lads to the 13 man code - Ben Flower (Wales, Crusaders) and Gareth Davies (Wales 7s, Blues).

Word soon spread and the newly named Storm under 17s soon encompassed players from Bargoed, Nelson and Caerphilly RFC.

The rest, as they say, is history.

The Storm reached the play offs after only losing one league game - to NPT Steelers - and went on to beat the Steelers in an action packed final to become Welsh Champions in their first season.

Most of the players were still eligible to play at under 17 level in the 2010 season and with the introduction of under 15 and under 13 squad, rugby league was rapidly growing at Penallta RFC.

Once again the Storm U17s reached the grand final and encouragingly the under 15s also battled their way to their final, beating some far more experienced sides in the process.

That finals day in Caerphilly will go down as one of the most exciting days of Junior rugby league in Wales. Storm U15s beat Pontyclun Panthers with a 'golden try' deep into extra time., whilst the U17s came from 2 scores down with 10 minutes to play to beat the regional side CPC Bears.
