After the game Church manager Ian Richard commented.
An excellent win today, it makes it twenty games undefeated at home since September 21st, which is a great achievement, it makes it only two losses in the last twenty-one games in all competitions and those two we had twelve players away at Barton, and our keeper came off injured after twenty minutes and Andy Ring had to go in for seventy minutes at Hemsworth in the cup we had no options on the bench for to those two losses we had those factors that created and caused those losses.
The players are doing brilliant at the moment and you could see that today, it was quite an even game, I thought first half, I thought it was better football played in the previous two games. I thought we just edged it we started better and got the goal we deserved from a corner and they had a good spell of ten minutes which we defended well, they got their wingers into play in dangerous areas but I thought we did well defending that and then we did well exploiting the extra man in midfield with Jordan Coduri and Elliot Firth driving from midfield and got Nathan one on one, played off Andy Ring and Kieran Ryan.
It was an evenly matched first half I thought we just edged it.
Second half they came out and they matched us up so obviously weren’t as happy as we were and again we defended well, we looked dangerous on the break, I don’t think we quite went man for man in midfield as well as we could have done but we looked dangerous on the break and their sending off came from that, a good ball to Andy Ring a good header on and a foul on Nathan Keightley the ref had no choice but to send the player off. Sometimes when your opposition goes down to ten men you don’t exploit it and you don’t move the ball quick enough to take advantage of that and you don’t play in the right areas and break with pace and we transition quickly which would have allowed us to have the extra man.
The second and third goal was have the highest order the second goal by Kieran Ryan was great, similar to his goal in the semi-final, he cut in he hit it well to the left which is another dimension to his game he’s brought in this season so I’m really please for him for that.
The third was a quality goal, a great link up by our front three, Kieran chested it down, Jordan Coduri played it inside, an unbelievably weighted pass on a difficult surface, Nathan has timed his run perfectly, used his pace to get in behind, he’s opened is body well he’s had the composure to see where the keeper was and put it to the other side.
I’m obviously disappointed that they scored from the corner keeper Chris Snaith thought he’d been pushed on that but it’s still disappointing but it’s a great win, we didn’t want to lose three times to Hemsworth this season.
The win puts us above them, it puts us above Bridlington who lost so it’s into seventh which is credit to the players again we’re in the highest position we’ve been we’re aspirational to try and finish sixth, we have the next six games against teams who are above us, around us or can go above us so we have loads to play for and we’ll be starting that against Pontefract on Tuesday but today we celebrate a good performance and a great win.

AFC Penistone Church

Sheffield & Hallamshire County Senior Premier Division
Swinton Athletic 0-0 AFC Penistone Church
After the game AFC Church manager Steve Lenthall said
As I predicted it was a tough game. They’re really well set out at Swinton their coach Andy Billups has got them well organised, he has a great set of lads up there. The pitch was perfect for us, it was a really good game. It was a credit to the County Senior League from two teams who go for it and play their football in the right way.
There wasn’t a bad foul in the game even though there was six bookings for minimal things. Every player on the pitch put a shift in.
Before the game, we had a quiet word with the lads saying we have to make sure our attitudes are right, we don’t leave anything in the changing rooms and every blade of grass has to be covered.
The formation we set out was a four-three-three, it was up to Brad Kemp and Sam Scrivens to track their full backs and make sure when they got the ball we played as a four-five-one, they did it superbly to be fair throughout the game they were top notch.
Tom Adams was superb up there holding it up making it his own against a big centre half and Sam Scrivens and Brad Kemp working off him little bits. In mid-field Mark Crossfield, Jack Moore and Mitch Savage were superb. Tom Cadzow from the first team coming in from a long injury played superbly, he had to come off after seventy-five minutes. Ross Levesley returned after a hip injury replaced Tom for the last fifteen minutes. Will Hackett at right back, eighteen year old, he’s played a superb game.
We probably edged it really in regards of possession but a draw is a fair result it would have been harsh on anybody to lose the game
Throughout the ninety minutes, I thought we put a shift in and I’m proud of the lads.
We had a bit of good news just before the start of the game in that we’re in The Association Cup Final, that’s a great boost for us, we play High Green Villa they just beat Handsworth in extra time. We look forward to going one better than last year and winning it.
I’d like to look back in history and see how many clubs have a first team in the Senior Cup Final and the reserves in the Association Cup in the same year I’m sure that’s a bit of history in the making, it’s credit to our football club and credit to Ian and Duncan Richards for getting the first team there as well.

Penistone Church Ladies

Sheffield & Hallamshire Women’s County Football – Krukowski Cup ¼ final
Penistone Church Ladies 1-3 Harworth Miners Welfare
Scorer for Church – Kirsty Bradley 59
This was the first game the Penigals had played for weeks due to the bad weather and quirks of the fixture list and it showed.
They conceded the first goal early on due to confusion between defenders and keeper Lorna Perry. The second was conceded when the ref adjudged keeper Lorna Perry to have impeded the Harworth striker in the area.
The second half started brighter after a half time pep talk the girls stepped up a gear and struck back from a goal from Kirsty Bradley but the game was put beyond reach when Harworth scored their third.
After the game Penigal Sophie Fearns told me after. We started slowly and conceded the first goal due to losing our shape at the back. At half time we asked them for a reaction which resulted getting a goal back but their third goal killed us off.
We tried to go three at the back to be more attacking but it just wasn’t our day.
We were quite rusty, it hasn’t helped with the weather, delays and breaks in the season and I just think it’s an off day for us, everyone’s put in a shift but it just wasn’t meant to be
