Penrith back to winning ways

Wigton U12/U11, 14pts vs. Penrith U12/U11, 40pts

Penrith travelled to Wigton following their previous week excellent effort against Carlisle and returned to winning ways. Thomas Maund secured the first try following dogged determination by the forwards and backs who exerted pressure on Wigton from the off. Penrith dominated the majority of the first half and Joe Connelly, typically exploiting the gaps in many a defence this season with his speed and agility, secured a brace Wigton edged back into the game in the latter stages of the first half and as a team Wigton improved in the second half but Penrith were by far the better team.  The impressive Connelly secured a further brace before the referee asked he be substituted and Alex Verrall, a player who has significantly progressed this season, along with many of his team mates, scored a hard earned try belying the height and weight of his opponents. Nathan Fidler, trusty with his boot all season, converted five of the six tries.  Wigton were fortunate to record a try with a ball that appeared held up and they added a further try in the last five minutes of the half. This wasn’t a performance about individuals, rugby never should be about individuals, and it was pleasing to observe every player from Penrith played as a team from the off.
