ECCLES 14 PENRITH 2s 66
SECONDS CROWNED LEAGUE CHAMPIONS
Penrith 2's made the last trip of the season to Eccles with a bus full of supporters looking to get the win that would see them win the County Courier Services Div 2 North.
Straight from kick off the home side put the visitors under pressure by closing down the ball, forcing the error and being awarded the first scrum of the game. With the referee showing his intent from the start to clamp down on infringements Penrith made hard work of getting out of their half for the first ten minutes of the game. Then the break through came and it saw some quick hands and feet to allow Captain Jonny Wills go over for the first try. This seem to settle the nerves of the Cumbrian's and more try's followed from Ryan Veitch and Jack Peet with conversions from Kyle Ryder. Eccles rallied and pegged Penrith back again and ran in their first try and conversion of the game.
It didn't take long and Penrith were back up the other end and saw try's from Tom Dawson, Tommy Broadhead and the first of the game for James Reynolds, with Ryder adding the extras from two of them to take the visitors into a commanding lead at half time.
Straight from the kick off of the second half the roles were reversed and it was Penrith's Dan Morland that took the ball and ran straight back at the opposition to score inside the first minute of the half, Ryder again obliged with the extra two points. With two more try's from Reynolds, one from Dalton Frith and Ryders boot for all three the green and white hoops sealed the game and the league. Eccles were awarded a penalty try in the last few minutes for a final score of 14-66 to Penrith.
Next season will see the 2's move up into the Sale Sharks Division One looking to test themselves against harder opposition and hopefully build on the success of the last two years.
On behalf of the team thank you to all our supporters throughout the season and to the Committee for their continued support of the team.
