This weekend, Percy Main will have (hopefully) completed two thirds of our league season as we head up the A19 and Spine Road to take on AFC Newbiggin at the sports centre (postcode NE64 6HG for those who haven't been - kick off is 2pm and the post match food will be served in the sports centre bar.

Games between the side's are generally competitive and close run affairs and The Main edged out Newbiggin during our last meeting on October 28th at Purvis Park by a 2-1 verdict. Jake Forster and a James Walker penalty netted the counters for Percy, while a late strike by Ross Muter, proved nothing more than a consolation for the visitors.

Currently, only one place seperates the sides in the table, with Percy Main in 10th and Newbiggin on equal points, with an inferior goal difference, but with a useful game in hand, a place behind.

Newbiggin have 6 former Percy Main players in their ranks this season, but it seems that only Ant Ridley, who transferred in August and with over 100 Percy appearances to his name and Kevin Long have played on a regular basis.
Others include the much travelled forward Wyn Fremlin who last figured in claret and blue 9 seasons ago, midfielder Ashley Smyth, a key figure in our promotion campaign of 2009-10 and Michael Butcher who scored a brilliant hat trick for us against Gateshead 'A' at the beginning of the season, then was never seen again!

Percy Main will be looking to get back to winning ways after losing our last 2 against Ponteland and Whitley Bay, during the last couple of weeks, while in contrast, Newbiggin have posted useful wins over North Shields Athletic (2-1) and Gateshead Rutherford (4-0) over the same period.
