The Gary Hull Memorial Trophy

This Saturday (July 14th) Percy Main Amateurs host North Shields FC in the annual Gary Hull Memorial Trophy match, played out prior to the start of each season, in memory of the former Villagers treasurer and committee member. Kick off will be the traditional Saturday time of 3pm.

A few 'interesting' facts of the game.....

It is now in its 16th consecutive year, since the inaugural game of 2003, when a Northern Alliance Select X1 beat Percy Main 3-2, watched by a crowd of over 300 inside Purvis Park.
A total of 9 teams have taken part, including 3 female teams (Percy Main AFC Ladies, North Shields & Ashington)
Percy Main have faced North Shields 10 times on the competition, but have never beaten The Robins (mind 2 have gone to extra time and 2 to penalty kicks, while another 3 have been decided in Shields favour by a 1 goal margin - could this be the year the Gary Hull Memorial Trophy is 'coming home?'
London based match referee Stuart Kyle, will officiate in his 11th consecutive Gary Hull Memorial Trophy game, while it is also a very poignant time of year for assistant Barry Sweeney.
The biggest win was North Shields 8-0 success last year over Percy Main, followed by The Main's 7-1 win over Cullercoats in 2011.
Chris Hunter has represented 3 sides, Percy Main, Heddon and Cullercoats - and lost each time!
The highest attendance is the 402 in 2015 after Shields had won the FA vase. (Mind, we had the Northern Alliance First division trophy as well!)
The pitch has never been so brown (3 weeks and 5 days since the last drop of rain, while we couldn't kick a ball in March because of it!)
The decorators have been in at the Stadio del Percy and the place has never looked so smart!

Admission is £3 (£1 concessions) and a souvenir programme will be produced at £1 per copy. Spectators are asked to park considerately or take public transport wherever possible.

There will be a supply of Percy Main 'centenary' badges for sale at a measly £3 and don't bother having any grub before you come as there'll be hot snacks of the highest order from the Percy Bistro.....
