Another home game this weekend....

Another home game for The Main this weekend as we entertain Ponteland United at Purvis Park - kick off is 2pm.

Last season Ponteland inflicted a comprehensive league double over Percy Main, having run out 5-1 winners at Purvis Park and 6-0 up at their Leisure centre base, within the space of a few weeks towards the end of 2016, but could perhaps consider themselves fortunate to triumph by the odd goal in 7 during our earlier league meeting this time around, which saw Jonny Storey net a hat trick for The Main, but still find himself on the losing side.

There were plenty of talking points in the game which included a saved penalty by Craig Byrne in the Main goal, while a brace from the much traveller Alex Benjamin, an Ethan Bewley strike and a late Kieran Tubman own goal, handed Ponteland the 3 points. Debate on the touchline on who and when the last Percy keeper was to save a penalty have still gone unanswered! Looking at the table today, Ponteland have only lost twice in the league to date, so will no doubt prove stern opposition.

Assuming Saturday's game goes ahead (and it's looking quite promising at the moment, due to a fine, sunny and breezy day today and a reasonable forecast between now and kick off time) it will be the 5th occasion since the turn of the year that Purvis Park has staged a home game and all of the previous occasions have taken place when the weather hasn't been too kind and a lot of our league rivals have been idle due to unfit pitches. Ours could probably do with a bit of a rest and it should get just that after this week, but roll on the Spring!
