Pershore 1st XV Vs Old Laurentians Match Report
Pershore defeated at home
Pershore continue to look for their second league win of this campaign.
This is a very tough league, and last saturdays opposition have an outstanding pedigree. Old Ls started the match far more composed, and with their backs comfortable with the ball in hand, ran the ball whenever possible, as they faced a strong wind, which made kicking difficult. Pershore had parity up front, but found it difficult to find gaps in a strong Old ls defence, constantly running back into heavy traffic, and squandering possesion. It was not long before Old Laurentians opened the scoring when quick hands in midfield allowed their very quick left wing Travis, early ball. He sprinted past his opposite man to touch down, the conversion good. Pershore soon narrowed the gap from a penalty from Woodhouse, but almost from the restart, Travis again was on the end of some lovely back play, and he carved his way through the middle to score another converted try. The remainder of the half was fairly even, when once again Travis received early ball, he brushed off the attempted tackle, and outpaced the covering defence to cross in the corner, the very difficult conversion was good. The second half was territorialy all Pershore, and for much of the second half, the Pershore forwards dominated, unfortunately the referees interpretation of Old Ls killing the ball, and slowing it down, meant that for all Pershores endeavour, the lack of quick ball prevented tries being scored. However, from several phases of pick and drive, Greg Shaw crashed over, Woodhouse converting. With the game coming to an end, and Old Ls first real time spent in Pershores half, Travis scored his fourth try, again down to his explosive pace, the conversion was good. Pershore showed tremendous character in the second half, but in this very hard league, they must start winning some games, or be drawn into a
relegation dogfight early in the season.
