We had 2 games with a rolling sub.

Match 1. – Our first game against a strong Redditch team saw Redditch barge their way through with size, strength, and plenty of interesting kicks and dummies. Redditch caught us napping and generally lacking some confidence or desire to play in this first game. Pershore failed to put the tackles in, and the few fruitless Pershore attacks ended in an isolated Pershore player losing the ball. The first half finished with Redditch 3 tries ahead.
The second half saw more of the same, with the final score: Pershore 0 Redditch 5. Pershore’s morale dipped low, with a minority of players not wanting to return to the pitch to work on an improvement that could surely be found. The majority won the day, and the team pulled themselves back on to the pitch, with some moody determination and steel in their strides.

Match 2 – It was as though Redditch met a different Pershore team in this second game. The Redditch team played the same game, but the new-found determination in this Pershore U11 team allowed them to more than match them, with Pershore scoring the first try, and finishing the first half 2 – 1 up.
Ro reluctantly re-joined the game in the 2nd half, allowing us to play a 9-a-side game that Redditch had been asking for. But this simply allowed Pershore to improve defensively. Redditch were never going to roll-over, and replied with tries of their own. But Pershore’s support play and improved tackling allowed us to claw the game away from Redditch, and despite some final Redditch efforts for the try-line in the last 30 seconds of the game, the dogged Pershore defence held firm, allowing a Pershore to hold the draw.
The final score: Pershore 3 Redditch 3.

After a 5 minute club photo-shoot, with Redditch kindly agreeing to provide a defensive opposition, the morning ended with a quick game of bulldog, that both clubs joined in with, and all players receiving the usual hotdogs back in the club-house.

3 individual player awards for today’s games:

Best Defender: Felix (in his first game for us).
Best Attacker: Ant (particularly for his efforts in the first game).
Best Sportsman: Oliver. (for coming back to play the 2nd game well, having not wanted to)

Our next game is at home against Droitwich.
