Perthshire were up against a far larger squad both in numbers and physique but a fantastic team spirit and never-say-die attitude saw them turn the match around and finish the last third very much in the ascendancy.

Since our Hamilton match, Perthshire's defence has looked frail and lacked commitment. This certainly was not the case against Dunfermline. The tackling was fierce and low against boys who made our coaching staff look small (actually most teams make our coaches look quite diminutive). Mathew's tackling at stand off was superb as was Angus L's at full back. The same was true of Ben, Lewis, Lochlann and Angus W in the forwards. Ally at scrum half also made a couple of try-saving thumping tackles. Jamie and Adam too, in the centres, looked very strong and determined in their defensive duties. The whole team contributed to a fine defensive effort which eventually wore down the opposition and turned the match in our favour.

In attack the forwards often made very good ground with much improved body positions going into the tackle. If they didn't manage to offload to supporting players then, almost without exception, the ball was retained and presented well on the ground. We occasionally lacked numbers in support and real drive at the breakdown but this improved through the course of the game.

The conditions were very heavy and we struggled to move the ball wide. However, Ally worked hard to get ball away and when we did, we saw real penetration from Mathew, Adam and particularly Jamie at outside centre. Angus L is always an attacking threat but we struggle to bring him into the line. However, he got his opportunity when he fielded the ball beautifully and showed fine pace to outflank the opposition defence run in a well-deserved try. There is attacking flair beginning to develop in our backs and we need to harness that in future games.

Well done to everyone in the team - it was a spirited performance that we can proud of and build upon.
