P3s battle hard against Blair in a great morning of Rugby
Perthshire Eaglets vs Blairgowrie Rams - 4/11/12
The air of anticipation amongst the P3s during the warm-up was matched only by the glorious autumnal morning that greeted the supporting parents at the North Inch last Sunday morning. The conditions were perfect for running rugby as the Eaglets and Rams squared up for this three match mini-series.
The first match was a close-fought affair with each side taking their opportunities. Strong running and great tackling were evident from both sides and the Eaglets ran out winners with a flattering 5-3 scoreline.
Perthshire made wholesale changes for the second game and again this was a close match - at half time it was one try each. Blairgowrie came out after the break full of intention, scoring quickly, but the Eaglets responded in kind. Level again. But the Ram’s defensive resilience made the difference, twice forcing Perthshire back, and scoring at the turnover. They finished the game in commanding form to square the series.
The Decider: another close run encounter. Matching each other try for try, it was 2-2 at half time. Perthshire made some tactical changes - bringing on the "Archies" - which would eventually prove decisive; but not before Blairgowrie scored straight from the restart. However, the Eaglets asserted themselves and two strong runs from Archie R, with great support and clinical finishing from Archie J-S, resulted in two tries which swung the game and the series.
Three cheers and handshakes all round finished off a great morning of rugby.
