The weekend started off with a successful Womens Come and Try event in conjunction with Scottish Rugby's new campaign #BeTheBestYou. Women 16+ years were invited down to the North Inch to take part in a Come and Try session aimed at introducing players to the basics of rugby. The session was a success with several new players attending. Off the back of the come and try event Women's rugby training will now be running on a Monday from 7.00 pm - 8.15 pm at the North Inch. Sessions are open to players of all abilities.
Along side the Men's 7's event, Perthshire also hosted the inaugural Women's 7's tournament with teams from Ayr, Edinburgh and Peterhead taking part alongside a Perthshire Select side. After very tough pool matches Perthshire Select were successful in beating a competitive Broughton side in the Final, winning 48-25. A big shout-out to Peterhead who attended the 7's after only training having been together for 3 months! Also big 'Thank-You' to our U12's who helped out as ball girls on the day.
After a busy Saturday the rugby continued....Sunday saw Perthshire host the last in the series of Scottish Rugby's U12's events. These events have been running across the country in the run up to the Women's Rugby World Cup in Ireland in August with teams being awarded points for number of players, wins, attendance, social media and completing a quiz at each event. Teams from Gala, Edinburgh, Montrose and Melrose took part in the tournament along side Perthshires U12's team. Overall Perthshire finished the series 3rd with Stew Mel being crowned winners of the series and Angus winners on the day.
Congratulations to all teams that took part!
Girls training takes place on a Wednesday evening from 6.00 pm - 7.15 pm and Sundays from 10.30 am - 12.00 pm.
