Perthshire 2nd XV 22 West of Scotland 2nd XV 17
Perthshire reserves welcomed the return of two of the clubs most experienced players on Saturday. There is no doubt that the presence of Jimmy White and Craig Ashman in the squad was a huge boost to morale. The game plan was a simple one, play rugby in the opponents half and take advantage of any opportunities whilst there. For most of the encounter Shire managed to get the ball where they wanted it, usually through Jamie Coffey’s right boot which had a good 90 minutes. Some excellent pressure in defence forced West to cough up the ball on numerous occasions and in the main Shire were able to take advantage. Good scrummaging and hard aggressive running were the main positives, with the Shire lineout most in need of improvement. But for a few break aways from their own 22 by West, this was a creditable performance by the Shire reserves.
