Solid away win keeps Borough on top of the league
Peterborough Ladies traveled to Scunthorpe on a great afternoon for rugby and came away with another win.
Receiving the kick off Boro were looking to play on the front foot, but their opponents were well drilled and not afraid to put their bodies on the line. After a great break, Sarah was stopped by having her hair tackled. More Boro pressure in the hosts 22 saw a loose ball go to the Scunthorpe full back who sprinted the length of the field to score under the posts. This was the first time that Boro had been behind in a league game this season. The reaction was what you hoped it would be. Following some slick hands, Jess was able to scorch her way to the try line. Shortly after, Canoe was on hand to finish a drive from the forwards following a strong run from the fly half, Skipper Mel getting the extras. Boro were growing into the game, and despite the odd loose pass, were playing some pretty solid rugby. The game had to moved due to an injury to one of the Scunthorpe players, thanks to Mark for his help (he was kept busy all afternoon). Steph was next to score, seeing a gap as the defence went wide, and having the strength to carry a defender over the tryline. Mel was successful with the conversion.
Half time Scunthorpe Ladies 7 Peterborough Ladies 19.
Boro were in the lead, but not home yet. The Scunthorpe full back was again able to race from deep in her own half to the score under the posts, narrowing the Boro lead. But solid defence from Boro kept the play in the Scunthorpe half, and Sarah was able to finish off some good hands to score. Boro were now looking a bit more comfortable (despite injuries to Pumpkin and Michelle), and Zoe (making a return from retirement) was able to score under the posts, screamed on from the sidelines, allowing Mel another two points to add to the total. Boro appeared to relax, which allowed the hosts to score in the corner with the last play of the match.

Our thanks to Scunthorpe for the game, no quarter given, and to our match referee.
Coach Rich chose Mel and Sarah as his forward and back of the match.
Nothing to report on court featuring the Day of the Dead (not the zombie film, I think), as the long road home beckoned for some of us (ie me).
Next, Lincoln at home on 26 November, an opportunity for the various knocks to heal.
