West Norfolk Ladies 7 Peterborough Ladies 15
Blinking Awesome *
Fifteen Ladies travelled along the A47 (so called because that is the average speed) to Kings Lynn for the first of three matches to complete their league season. The return was the first match of the season, and West Norfolk's first league game, and we guessed that they would improve through the season. Well today, Boro were visiting the league leaders.
The weather, which was pretty awful, was not conducive to open running rugby, but Boro delivered a defensive masterclass, and showed a cutting edge to score when their limited opportunities arose.
Then game started with both teams testing each other. But Boro looked to have the more incisive individuals. This proved to be the case after 15 minutes when Michelle got the ball just inside the Boro half and was gone and able to score the first try of the game, and in doing so, continuing a great run of form. Boro were playing some good stuff, at one point Steph made the use of two dummy runners to pass the ball to Michelle who was running an arcing line behind her teammates to get over the gain line. The forwards, with skipper Mel and Verity to the fore punching holes when picking and driving. The pack as a whole got their driving maul going. And it was no surprise when Sarah was able to take a ball at pace and break through some tackles to score Boro's second try. The first half finished with a sign of things to come, with the hosts pressing, but not able to break the Boro defence.
Half Time West Norfolk Ladies 0 Peterborough Ladies 10.
With no subs, Coach Rich didn't have to tinker too much, just get the team to keep doing what they had done in the first half. With a number of the Boro players picking up knocks, it was no surprise that West Norfolk were pressing. However, the Boro ladies were able to repel attack after attack, with everyone putting their bodies on the line to stop the hosts scoring. Eventually, the pressure from the home team paid off, and they scored a try which was also converted. Into the last quarter, and things were looking tight. But this Boro team had belief. Belief in each other that everyone would do their job, whether it was in attack or defence. And so when Boro got into the West Norfolk 22, it was no surprise that after a number of controlled phases, Sarah was able to score her second try on the match and put Boro two scores up with the clock running down. West Norfolk were nopt going to give up, and set about getting the points they needed. But this Boro team was resolute, and had decided that they would not concede again. The game finished with the Boro defence on top, and looking like they would not allow another try to be scored.

Our thanks to West Norfolk for a hard attritional game, no surprise given the conditions and to our match official.
Coach Rich had to pick a back and forward of the match and went with Sarah and Verity respectively, but 13 other Ladies made put in a claim.
Next week, Coalville away.
