Rugby Lionesses 19 Peterborough Ladies 32
Boro Ladies go three from three in the league in game of two halves.
Peterborough Ladies traveled to the home of rugby (no, not Llanelli) but Rugby, Warks, looking to continue their good start to the league season.
From the start, Boro put pressure on the hosts, which paid off when it looked as if the wrong choice had been made, with the forwards packing the blind side, Nat spun the ball to Jess in the wide open, and Steph was able to crash her way over the line. Just the start we needed. However, this appeared to stir our hosts, and they set about playing in the Borough half. Their pressure paid off when they scored a (converted) try. Boro were making basic mistakes, knocking on or (poor) passing to teammates in worse positions than they were. Rugby were reduced to 14 players just before half time, which saw the teams turn round at Lionesses 7 Boro 5.
Boro knew what they had to do, but the hosts were first to score, through a breakaway from their own half, again converted. This was the first time Boro had been behind in a league match this season, and it was a chance to see what they were made of. Michelle scored, following some good hands, and showing some good pace, having burst through two would be tacklers. Boro started to click, and Zoe was next to score, after some good rucking from the forwards had drawn in the defence, she was able to finish off some quick passing, by sprinting to the right hand corner. Boro were now looking like the smooth running team that had played so well in their first two matches, and Michelle was on hand, following some quick thinking, to score in the left hand corner. Zoe was having a great game, chasing back and stopping what looked like a certain try, before again scorching her way to the line , and getting fairly close to the posts, to enable her to get the conversion. Rugby had not given up, and were able to score, to keep Boro honest, but Nat was on hand to finish off another flowing move on the final whistle. Worth noting that Alisha cleared an opposition player from a ruck as if it was a demo for one of those rugby magazine programmes on the tv.
Final Score, Rugby Lionesses 19 Peterborough Ladies 32. Our thanks to Rugby for the match and our match official.
Coach Rich chose Kaleigh as his player of the match. The bring along was lion related (no idea why !!).
Next week the Ladies are at home and welcome Five Ways Old Edwardians to Fortress Fengate. Come down and support your league leaders.
