The Juggers traveled the short distance to Huntingdon to play the Staggerers in their first game of 2017/18. It was also our first game without Mark, and an impeccable minutes silence was held prior to kick off.
Pre-season was curtailed due to a thunder storm, and the changing room was too small to allow us to undertake a captains run. This meant that we were a bit slow to start (or rusty). we conceded a few quick tries before we started to play a bit of rugby ourselves. With a number of regulars missing, we saw a lot of players in unfamiliar roles. The fist half saw us play up the hill in a mini heatwave. All good, as this would be in our favour in the second half. Except the sun went in, it rained, then hailed and the wind did blow. But at least we stemmed the flow of tries (for a while).
So in the end we lost, to a younger and fitter team. Still, we now know what we need to do, and it includes getting "A BIT NUGGETY" copyright the gas man, and the only one of the BBG quads available.
Hoping Ian (Little Thommo) is ok after his knock, no doubt the rest of us are feeling it as well.
Thanks to the Staggerers for the game, played in the right way, and to our match official.
A quick court session followed, where a returning banker was rightfully deemed Dick of the Day, but in a bizarre twist managed to wriggle out of his punishment !!
No game next week, at the moment, so keep 'em peeled.
