Juggers fail to retain Gin Bottle
Second half fight back not enough
The Juggers travelled to Stamford for the 2017 Gin Bottle, and lost a thriller ((C) Michael Jackson).
On a freezing Saturday, the Juggers, supplemented by prop James, some Boro youth (thanks Connor, Lutene, Chris, Redsy and Byron) and Deeping Dinosaurs (thanks Jason, Alan, Andy and Pez), played Stamford for the Gin Bottle. Stamford scored while we were asleep, and then looked to keep us in our 22. We were defending well, but it looked to be when would Stamford score next. They scored two more tries in the half, with Boro putting their bodies on the line.
Half time Stamford 17 Juggers 0 and time for port and a switch or two to reduce the risk of hypothermia.
Playing with the slope and some youth, Boro started the second half on fire, and tries from Lutene, Alan (which saw a Stamford player bumped into Boxing Day) and Byron had us back in the game. But Stamford were fairly resolute and worked their way back into our 22 when we were back to attack v defence. With the penultimate play of the game, the hosts were able to score a try to seal the match.
Final score Stamford 22 Juggers 15.
Thanks to Stamford for a great match, as usual, and to our referees (Stan for the second half), without you we would not have had a game.
Christmas jumpers, hats and mince pies were in abundance !
The next round of shenanigans is the Dads and Lads match, this year at Lions, on Saturday 30 December.
Have a happy and peaceful Christmas.
