Dinosaurs 41 Juggers 19
Juggers get season 2018/19 underway with road trip to Deeping
The Juggers, welcoming some new and old faces, traveled to Deeping to play the Dinosaurs.
Starting with a distinctly youthful feel, ie not all the Juggers were in their 50's, Andy came off after 30 seconds with a hurty arm, a bit of a reshuffle with young Jack replacing him and we were off, again. Deeping started the stronger and managed to score a few tries. But Ade, at 10, was using the wind to put the Juggers into the Deeping 22, and our first score had to come soon. And it did with Dale able to crash over from a tap penalty (I seem to have seen that before somewhere). Skips was on hand if required, but we knew that our fate would be sealed if he scored our first try. Ade got the extras. However, despite our best efforts we were unable to score again in the half (I won't mention Pete's little chip when he was ten yards out !). Jack had to leave the field after stopping a Dinosaur with his head. Tommo, Mr Coyle and young Tom Bird also came off injured during the half (one of them with some very nasty looking blisters !). Squeak fronted up manfully in the front row with Ian.
Half time, orange froth and a bit off shuffling. Karl making his first appearance in a Boro shirt for years, saw some action. But it was Dale who was instrumental in our next try. From the base of a ruck on half way, he picked the ball up and burst through a number of tacklers before getting an early call from Pete (aka the Gas Man, and the only one of the BBGT still playing), who cut back on a great line that saw him through to the try line, Ade getting the conversion. OK, Deeping managed to score a few more, but we were playing better into the wind. This was highlighted when Tony was able to score in the corner following the forwards winning a scrum against the head on halfway, some sharp handling and rucking for the whole team. Not bad given that there was so much tape on Tony's left ankle it must have felt like an anchor. Tim, Sean and Martin were pretty robust, particularly in defence, and the locks, Jason and Alan, put themselves about, as did the twin hooking option of Mitch and Moose (sounds like that should be on Saturday morning tv).
Not a bad start to the season, and a good way to blow a few cobwebs away.
Final score, Dinos 41 Juggers 19.
Thanks to our hosts and our match official, always a pleasure.
A quick court with many of the potential winners of the Plank of the Week having scarpered, saw our new banker make hay, don't be fooled by the smiling face. Up before the bench were Martin, for missing a tackle, nominated by son George (nice) and Andy for lasting 30 seconds (self nominated). Martin was chosen as our first plank of the week.
Not sure what is happening next week, so keep 'em peeled.
