Peterborough Lions bounced back in style from their first defeat of the season in Midlands Division One.
Last season’s Division Two champions made a blistering start to life at the higher level with victories in their first four games before slipping up at Paviors.
On Saturday normal service was resumed at Bretton Gate as they mauled Kettering 66-10 to consolidate second place in the table behind Ilkeston.
Chairman Andy Moore predicted a backlash from his boys, who were pipped 39-34 by Nottingham side Paviors, and that’s exactly what happened.
“We were hungrier than ever for this one after throwing victory away at Paviors in the dying seconds and in the second half we were awesome,” he said.
“Kettering started well and came at us and they scored an early try. Their defence was ferocious in the first 10 minutes.
“But they couldn’t sustain it. We wore them down. Our big lads pounded them and it was certainly one-way traffic after half-time.”
The Lions led 21-10 at half-time and scored 10 tries with eight conversions by Jaco Steenberg.
The try-scoreres were Steenberg, Saad Sait (2), Oli Story (2), Mark Carter, Chris Humphrey, Dan Page, JC Sagoe and Max Guseinov.
